Featured CustomerHoughton Mifflin, a trendsetter in electronic publishing, has been partnered with Kanda Software for its digital content programs for over six years. "They are the perfect company for us," says David Jost, Vice President of Electronic Publishing at Houghton Mifflin. "There are a lot of different pieces to this sort of offering, and you've got to have someone who can put them together intelligently," says Jost. "That is one of Kanda's key strengths." Houghton's newest online product, called e-Reference, allows the company's reference materials such as dictionaries, thesauri, and the World History Encyclopedia, to be repackaged for a new revenue channel with minimal cannibalization of the print products. As part of the task of creating e-Reference, Kanda integrated a linguistic spell-checker, one of Kanda's proprietary reusable software components. Kanda also created for Houghton Mifflin a version of the product that makes it very easy to buy. Prospects can download a free demonstration product, which, when the user decides to purchase, turns into the real product—the customer doesn't have to do another download. |
